Virginia Humanities

The Virginia Arts of the Book Center will host its 12th annual Raucous Auction on November 18, from 5:30-8PM, featuring the culmination of a year’s collaborative work in book and printmaking. It is an evening of food, drink, and book arts appreciation with a lively atmosphere that is open to the public—timed just before the holiday gift season!

The Virginia Arts of the Book Center—a community of artists exploring books, paper, and printmaking—is a program of the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities. Every year, VABC’s Raucous Auction helps continue the work of the VABC by providing funding for a multitude of unique initiatives, including a commitment to high concept as well as craft. At this year’s auction, three special works will be celebrated and auctioned off—the “Tree of Life” print collection; the “Handmade Harvest,” a collection of more than a dozen handmade books by VABC member artists; and “Speaking in Faces,” a collection of prints showcasing the largest collection of moveable type in Virginia.

Tickets for the event are on sale here, $15 for members and early bird, and $20 after Nov. 1. The online auction ends November 17. The Live Auction at 6:20pm will be followed by a Silent Auction ending at 7:45pm. Online bids will proceed into the live and silent auctions—so the best way to walk away with the art is to attend!
