Our Mission: Recognizing that the UVArts are vital to the student experience here on Grounds, the first-ever Arts Grounds Benefit Gala seeks to accomplish a three-fold mission:
Flight of the Finch
Flight of the Finch is an independent short film that plays with the dichotomies between love and hate, passion and anger, good and evil, and how they’re all intertwined within people. It’s a journey into the psyche of the killer, and the lover, the protagonist and the villain. It confronts concepts of human nostalgia, regret, and desire to go back to a shinier past, a happier place.
Cavalier Symphony Orchestra
Cavalier Symphony Orchestra is an all-inclusive, non-audition full orchestra. Open to all musicians and providing a home to incoming students wishing to continue music casually from high school band or orchestra, CSO fills a recreational and social niche in UVA’s musical community. Per UVA’s tradition of student self-governance, the CSO is run by a student-comprised executive board, all players vote on pieces to perform, which range from classical to contemporary, and student conductors from around grounds are given the opportunity to conduct at every semesterly concert.
Come On, Bet!
Welcome to Sibet Partee’s collegiate podcasting experiment! Listen as she interviews the creatives she encounters throughout her years as a college student. So far, she has spoken with students, professors, artists, and friends about their childhood, art, insecurities, relationships, spirituality…The possibilities are endless!
The Autism Theatre Project
The Autism Theatre Project partners with Charlottesville-area theaters to provide positive theater-going experiences for people with sensory challenges and their families. After a successful inaugural production last fall, two autism-friendly performances are being planned for this April.
Art Embassy
Art Embassy is the first international art organization to use the power of social media to bring together more then 20 different cultures, including artists, critics, collectors, curators, and most of all, art lovers. So far, our community comprises emerging artists from Pakistan, Mongolia, Nigeria, Japan, Syria, France, Georgia, Indonesia, Italy, Switzerland, Korea, Lithuania, Belgium, and Nigeria. We provide a nurturing environment for artists, which challenges their visions by confronting new cultures.
Paul Robeson Players
Paul Robeson Players is an independent student organization grounded in African and African-American theater traditions. We are committed to social activism through performance for and about peoples of the African Diaspora.
