CHARLOTTESVILLE, May 22, 2017 – Can WTJU save lives? Not sure about that, but WTJU can definitely save your ears.
WTJU listeners refer to the station as a “sonic life raft,” and for 60 years, WTJU has served as that role for UVA, the Charlottesville community, and beyond. That longevity is a remarkable achievement in itself. Way back in 1957, WTJU signed on with volunteer-curated music to enrich our community. The station has maintained a non-commercial format of eclectic music ever since.
This June 3 – 11, WTJU will celebrate its six decades as a sonic life raft with nine days of special on-air shows. The full schedule is online at WTJU.net/wtju60.
“Across all genres, we’ll dive back to the music of the last 60 years,” said Nathan Moore, WTJU General Manager. “We’ve invited WTJU alums to come home to WTJU to host shows during the first two weekends in June. And throughout the entire on-air celebration, we’ll show what an amazing role WTJU has played in the cultural life of our community for so long.”
“Anniversaries like this are always important to mark,” Moore continued. “But what I find amazing are the tremendous achievements of generations of hosts and listeners who built this station, nurtured it, sustained it, contributed their passion and skills and hearts to it.”
