Charlottesville, VA (October 19, 2015) – “Stilts, beers and marching bands … what a combination,” says IX At Park co-creator Brian Wimer. WTJU and the IX Art Park are proud to announce their upcoming IXtoberfest, featuring a performance by MarchFourth! from Portland, Oregon. Wimer adds, “I’ve seen these maniacs at SXSW and Burning Man. Their ethos is part of why the IX Art Park exists.”

“How can I describe this group,” writes Yale Cohn of Little Village Magazine. “A sweaty, beautiful, chaotic, organized, hyper-realized, super-tight, fever-dream of a monster that defies categorization and pumps out so much beat and rhythm that the venue should call in a structural engineer because the roof was nearly blown clean off!”

With high-energy compositions, colorful costumes and hilarious stage shenanigans, MarchFourth! combinesjazz, funk, Afro-beat, big-band, Gypsy Brass, samba, and rock, with a visual kaleidoscope of stilt walkers and acrobats. “You could call MarchFourth a Vaudeville circus, or a sexy carnivalesque sideshow of animalistic proportions where all sense of decorum is beaten into submission,” says Mike Greenblatt in The Aquarian. “I call it a panoply for the senses, a celebratory feast of friends, a visually stunning performance that sears itself into your brain.”

Warming up for them are the Vulgar Bulgars, Central Virginia’s finest klezmer band, playing traditional Eastern European music (clarinet, violin and bass) typical of Jewish weddings … and Oktoberfests.

Three Notch’d Brewing Company will be pouring craft brews. And the food truck lineup will be epic, including: Bavarian Chef, Mellow Mushroom Pizza, Mouth Wide Open, South Fork, Morsel Compass and Carpe Donut. Plus, fleaVille’s outdoor handcraft market will be back, showcasing the best of Charlottesville’s creative community – a carefully-curated mix of modern makers offering handcrafted and vintage goods including jewelry, apparel, art, home goods and antique furniture.

This is the 8th of ten free concerts at the IX Art Park – the place to party now that Friday’s After Five is over. The Levitt AMP Charlottesville music series has spanned the whole range of musical genres: country, jazz, rock and a massive all-day lineup of Latin American folk music with Cville Sabroso. Wimer says, “Now, add SteamFunk Rock-n-Roll Circus Party to the list.”

In addition to financial support from Levitt Pavilions, the concert series is also made possible by contributions from WTJU, the IX Art Park, the Bridge PAI, Mellow Mushroom Pizza, Relay Foods, Wells Fargo, Three Notch’d Brewing Company, Henley’s Auctions of Charlottesville and the Charlottesville Albemarle Visitors Bureau, Crutchfield, as well as our media partners C-Ville Weekly, Charlottesville Tomorrow, the Cavalier Daily and the Charlottesville Newsplex (ABC, CBS, FOX).
