The University Singers, Virginia Glee Club, Virginia Women’s Chorus, UVA Chamber Singers—Saturday October 24th, 7pm, Old Cabell Hall

Join the University Singers, UVa Chamber Singers, Virginia Glee Club, and Virginia Women’s Chorus for the traditional Family Weekend Choral Showcase—Saturday October 24th, 7:00 pm in Old Cabell Hall on the famed Lawn at the University of Virginia.

The concert’s lively and varied program will feature selections from all four ensembles’ 2015 repertoire—including Eric Whitacre’s stunning “Sainte-Chapelle,” Chesnokov’s beautiful “Spaseniye,” the folksong “Shenandoah,” a work by contemporary composer Ola Gjeilo, and an arrangement of Arlen’s “Somewhere over the Rainbow.”

The evening will close with a joint performance of Mendelssohn’s “He Watching Over Israel” from Elijah, as well as the beloved UVa songs, sung by the combined choruses (nearly 200 voices strong), who will be joined on stage by their alumni.

The Virginia Women’s Chorus is conducted by KaeRenae Mitchell, the Virginia Glee Club is led by conductor Frank Albinder, and the University Singers and UVa Chamber Singers are directed by UVa faculty conductor Michael Slon.
