Datapalooza is a showcase of the data-driven research, resources, services, and outreach here at UVA. The University-wide event is an opportunity for all member of our community to understand how everyone uses data in varying ways. As a part of this year’s event we will be unveiling the new Data Science Institute location that includes a 20’x10’ data visualization wall. In the new space (Dell 1, currently under construction) we will set up a Data Visualization as Art Exhibit displaying works by faculty, researchers, and students of their data interpretations in creative forms. We will also have a virtual reality room for people to do interactive creative expression in real time.
The exhibit will be installed the week of September 12, with the opening as a part of the Datapalooza event on Friday, September 16 from 3:30-5pm. We would want artists on hand to talk about their work if possible. We are currently working to see if there is a way to allow the exhibit to stay up for a period of time after the event, but we are still working on the details of that. If you have a piece or a concept that you are interested in submitting for the exhibit, please email Arlyn Burgess by Monday, August 29.
