The Raven Society has confirmed it will host Gareth Hinds, author of acclaimed graphic novel adaptations of Homer’s Odyssey, Shakespeare’s Macbeth, and Edgar Allan Poe’s poetry and stories, at the Rotunda of the University of Virginia on October 20th, 2017 at 5:30 PM.
Author of POE: Stories and Poems, Mr. Hinds is a DC-based author and illustrator known for his graphic novel adaptations of the works of Homer and Shakespeare. His latest work is a graphic novel adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s poetry and stories, including The Cask of Amontillado, The Tell- Tale Heart, and The Raven. According to Meghan Cox Gurdon (Wall Street Journal), “Brilliant and terrifying, this collection shows in pictures much of what Poe revealed only through words. Still, Mr. Hinds has retained sufficient ambiguity to leave brave young readers with many of their own dark imaginings.”
Starting at 5:30 PM on Friday, October 20th, 2017 in the Multipurpose Room of the Rotunda at the University of Virginia, Mr. Hinds will give a lecture on his creative process, including a visual demonstration of his work, followed by a Q&A session. The lecture will be followed by a book signing in Edgar Allan Poe’s room, No. 13 West Range. Please contact the Raven Society President at [email protected] with any questions.
