MOVING, an original work by local playwright Sean Michael McCord is the first offering of the Charlottesville Playwrights Collective, a fledgling organization dedicated to the production of news works by local playwrights. The play will be staged at the Belmont Arts Collaborative, 221 Carlton Rd. in Charlottesville.
MOVING spans thirty years, following the lives of several different residents of one apartment. The play is directed by Joncey Boggs and produced by Marty Moore. “I was intrigued by the idea of taking a setting that gave me a platform to explore how the choices we make early in life can impact us and the people around us as we age,” said McCord, an MFA candidate in the Hollins Playwrighting program in describing MOVING. “It’s a story about growing, changing and yes, moving.”
McCord is leading a group of local playwrights as they organize to present their work. “One of the great challenges facing emerging playwrights is finding theaters who will produce new works by unknown, or relatively unknown playwrights,” McCord, who has had work produced in Virginia, Kentucky, Colorado, California and Germany, noted. “One way to meet this challenge is for playwrights to collaborate, to help each other self-produce, and Charlottesville, which has always demonstrated an appetite for new plays, is a great place to do this.”
PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE: MOVING will open on September 7 and run through September 16, 2017, with performances on September 7, 8, 9, 15 and 16, Curtain time is 8PM.
TICKET INFORMATION: Admission is Pay-What-You-Will. Tickets can be purchased at the door by cash or credit card. Seating is general admission.
