Exhibition​ ​opening​ ​Friday​ ​November​ ​3,​ ​5:30-9:00

The​ ​past​ ​isn’t​ ​ever​ ​past,​ ​it​ ​is​ ​always​ ​present,​ ​as​ ​the​ ​events​ ​of​ ​our​ ​last​ ​summer​ ​have​ ​reminded us.​ ​The​  portraits​ ​in​ ​People​ ​of​ ​Charlottesville​ ​merge​ ​the​ ​past—​ ​through​ ​it’s​ ​19th​ ​century​ ​wet plate​ ​collodion​ ​process—​ ​with​ ​the​ ​present—​ ​it’s​ ​21st​ ​century​ ​subjects.​ ​It​ ​is​ ​a​ ​work​ ​in​ ​progress, not​ ​a​ ​definitive​ ​statement,​ ​that​  explores​ ​who​ ​we​ ​are​ ​as​ ​a​ ​community:​ ​young​ ​and​ ​old,​ ​black​ ​and white,​ ​middle​ ​eastern​ ​and​ ​asian,​ ​native​  born​ ​Charlottesville​ ​residents​ ​and​ ​those​ ​of​ ​us​ ​who​ ​have moved​ ​here​ ​from​ ​far​ ​away​ ​locales,​ ​like​  Harrisonburg​ ​or​ ​West​ ​Virginia,​ ​Afghanistan​ ​or​ ​Japan.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:​ Aaron Farrington is an artist working in photography and film. He has lived in Charlottesville for twenty years.
