International “1% Privilege in a Time of Global Inequality” Photo Exhibit Curated by Time Magazine’s Myles Little

Brought to Charlottesville by the Institute of the Humanities & Global Cultures (IHGC)

Charlottesville, VA — The Institute of the Humanities & Global Cultures (IHGC) at the University of Virginia is delighted to bring to Charlottesville the international photography exhibit, “1% Privilege in a Time of Global Inequality,” curated by noted Time Magazine photography editor, Myles Little. The exhibit contains 30 artworks by international photographers, and it has traveled to around 25 locations on five continents. Although a few photos were shown in the projection show at the Sprint Pavilion at the Look3 Photography Festival in 2016, Charlottesville is the one of the few locations in the United States in which the actual photos have been exhibited. The IHGC’s Humanities Week 2017: “Living (In)Equality,” the annual student-produced celebration of the humanities took inspiration from the exhibit. Prof Claire Raymond, UVA Dept of Art History, and Will Kerner, Charlottesville photographer and Founder of LOOK3 Photography Festival, were on hand at Monday evening’s kick-off for Humanities Week (April 17), to make comments about the exhibit, which is on display in both the IHGC’s Wilson Hall 1st Floor Main Entrance Foyer and also the 2^nd Floor Nau Hall Commons into early June 2017.

The schedule for Humanities Week 2017: “Living (In)Equality” is filled with events that deal with the topics of Equality (and Inequality) through different lenses — including poetry, global development, a poverty simulation, food and agriculture, literature, politics, film, visual art, and a student photography contest.
