CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (September 6) – Next week, Human/Ties, a four-day festival celebrating the 50th anniversary of the National Endowment for the Humanities, will host a sneak preview of “Hamilton’s America,” a documentary film that delves into the life of Alexander Hamilton and the making of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning sensation “Hamilton: An American Musical.”

The screening will be free and open to the public and take place at Paramount Theater on Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall Friday, September 16, at 9 p.m.

“With ‘Hamilton’, Miranda has taken a 200-year-old story that used to be confined to history textbooks and brought it to life today,” said NEH Chairman William D. Adams. “It’s an incredible example of how the humanities impact all aspects of our lives, from entertainment to education.”

An interview with actor Christopher Jackson — Tony-nominated for his role as George Washington in the original Broadway cast of “Hamilton”– will immediately follow the sneak preview.

The documentary will go behind the scenes of Miranda’s creative process in transforming Alexander Hamilton’s biographical history into a critically-acclaimed theatrical masterpiece. The film follows the original Broadway cast from the theater to historic locations like Mount Vernon and includes interviews with President Barack Obama, President George W. Bush, Questlove, and Jimmy Fallon.

“Many of the political issues in Hamilton’s era resonate with us right now,” said Adams. “This film provides a window into our nation’s roots and their timeless influence on today’s society.”

“Hamilton’s America,” produced by Academy-Award-winning RadicalMedia and directed by Alex Horwitz, will debut as part of THIRTEEN’s “Great Performances” on Friday, October 21, at 9 p.m. on PBS, as the kickoff to the PBS Arts Fall Festival, which Miranda himself is hosting.

This sneak preview event is a partnership between the University of Virginia, Charlottesville’s local PBS station, WHTJ and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Human/Ties is made possible by the generous support of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
