The Global History of Black Girlhood Conference will gather over forty scholars, artists and activists to present recent research, creative works, and political organizing that place the emerging field of black girls’ history within a global framework.

Presentations will focus on black girls’ pasts in Africa, Europe, and the Americas, addressing themes including kinship, bondage, activism, justice, pleasure, play, and representation.  The conference will include a keynote panel on “Global Black Girl Politics” and a reading by Tayari Jones from her novel Silver Sparrow.

All events are free and open to the public.  Lunch on Friday or Saturday requires registration through the conference website.
