Ticket and Admission Policies

Refunds

All sales are final. No refunds will be issued unless the event is canceled.

If you are unable to attend an event, you may be eligible to return your tickets as a tax-deductible charitable donation for the face value of the tickets (excluding any service fees). To be eligible, tickets must be returned to the Arts Box Office before the event begins.

Exchanges

If there is more than one performance of the event you have purchased, you may be permitted to exchange your tickets for another performance of the same event, subject to availability and management discretion. Exchanges must be made in person by returning the original tickets at least 24 hours prior to the event. Exchanges are not permitted for any event that has already started or between two different events. Complimentary tickets cannot be exchanged.

For events with reserved seating, patrons may be permitted to change their seats prior to the start of the event, subject to availability. Please note that patrons are responsible for any difference in price when exchanging seats.

Select series offer season ticket subscribers the benefit of added flexibility to exchange tickets. Please visit the subscribers page for more information.

Misplaced Tickets

Please treat printed tickets like cash and keep in a safe location. Reserved seating tickets may be reprinted with a valid order confirmation and photo ID. General admission tickets cannot be reprinted.

Inclement Weather & Cancellations

Please contact the Arts Box Office to check the status of any event that might be affected by severe weather. In most cases, an event will proceed as scheduled unless the University is closed. To check the operational status of the University of Virginia, please visit UVA Emergency Information or call the UVA Hotline.

In the event that a performance is canceled, the Arts Box Office will contact patrons to offer a refund. Notice of cancellation will be posted on the events page.

Seating and Accessibility

Please advise Box Office staff prior to purchasing tickets when special seating is required (wheelchair seating, aisle seat, etc.). Accessible seating prices and availability vary by event and venue. So that we may serve the greatest number of patrons, we ask that each person seated in a wheelchair section limit themselves to one guest seated next to them in a seat. Additional guests will be seated as close to the wheelchair section as possible.

Late Seating

Please arrive at least forty-five minutes in advance of an event if you need to purchase tickets or pick up tickets from will call, and at least thirty minutes prior if you already have tickets. Please be advised that some events may coincide with University of Virginia athletic events, in which case it may be necessary to allow additional time for parking and travel. Doors open and seating begins approximately thirty minutes before the scheduled start time. Late seating information for each venue is listed below:

  • Culbreth, Helms, and Ruth Caplin Theatres: Patrons will be admitted after curtain but are not guaranteed their ticketed seat until intermission.
  • Old Cabell Hall: Doors are shut at the start of the event and reopen for late admission between pieces. For some events, there will be no late seating until intermission.
  • Virginia Film Festival: Seating is on a general admission first-come, first-served basis, and there is no late entry or late seating.

Infants and Small Children

All persons must have a ticket for entry, including children and infants in arms. As a courtesy to artists and other patrons, please use discretion regarding a child’s ability to sit quietly and enjoy an event. Please note that most events are not appropriate for pre-school-age children and anyone creating a disturbance during an event may be asked to leave.

For events at Old Cabell Hall, no children under the age of five will be allowed entry.
