Museum of De-Naturalized Architecture
This piece was the final model for my architecture studio project last semester and measures 18"x32". Titled the "Museum of De-Naturalized Architecture", the project subverts conventional spatial configurations, establishing chance as a critical element of design and accepting the partnership between chance and agency, human and nonhuman. The space began with the concept of the ground as instructional data, or DNA. A series of rules and randomizations resulted in a set of initial conditions, which were then adapted to refine the space. The museum stands in contrast to the perspectival objects that proliferate in architecture. Instead it is of the ground, a mutation of its context, which is reflected in the uniform materiality of the model. The surface is completely poured with rockite, with different textures and colors achieved through premeditated treatment of the formwork. The piece assumes the character of a fossil, one captured permutation in the continuum of genetic change.
